Meet
John Wu
As a first generation immigrant, John never imagined becoming an elected official. John was born in Hong Kong, raised in Taiwan, and before immigrating to the United States, he spent two years in Austria studying Hospitality. He later obtained his bachelor’s degree at CalState LA in 2002. After traveling and living across cities in Asia, Europe, and the United States, John decided to settle down and put roots in San Gabriel with his wife, Sunny. San Gabriel is where John proudly calls home, where he’s become a prominent figure in real estate, raised his daughter, and served on the City Council since February 2022.
Living over two decades in San Gabriel, John was honored to be appointed as a Councilmember earlier this year. He took the opportunity to serve our community and has worked hard to make our city more prosperous. With a mission of progress and community development, John has achieved several of his initial goals and has continued to work as a bridge to the Asian community to help drive engagement within the city.
With many years of serving ethnic associations, businesses, and professional organizations, from local to national levels, John has accumulated the skills and experience to bridge the cultures, generations, and languages of our diverse community. As an immigrant citizen, John knows firsthand the struggles and challenges of immigrant families and communities. On City Council, he’s worked to improve inclusion through breaking down educational and language barriers. As a leader, John believes the future of San Gabriel should be a place that anyone and everyone should be welcome and proud to call home.
San Gabriel is where John chose to raise his family and he knows the value of a safe and secure community for all families. That’s why he’s put public safety at the top of his agenda and focused on business-friendly policies to help increase the quality of life for all residents of San Gabriel. John also knows that community engagement is vital to a healthy city, so he’s put his efforts into bringing the community together through programming, business development, and public outreach.
John Wu is running for San Gabriel City Council to continue fulfilling the vision he has for our city’s future. He’s ready to improve public safety, revitalize the local economy, invest in local infrastructure, update our parks and recreation centers, and strengthen our community. It’s time to build a brighter future for San Gabriel and work together.
